Obama’s False Choice

By Jonathan Tobin

http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | In his address to AIPAC Sunday morning, President Obama doubled down on the points he made in his speech on Thursday. After a lengthy, and not entirely unjustified defense of his administration’s record of support for Israel’s security, he continued talking down to the Jewish state and its government as if he knew better than they about the situation in the Middle East.

Following the talking points that the administration has been furiously spinning since Thursday, Obama attempted to explain that there was nothing original or new in his attempt to lay down the 1967 lines as the starting point for future talks. It is true, as he asserted that his line bout “mutually agreed upon swaps” of territory means that the “borders will be different.” But contrary to his claim that this is what past administrations also support, the Bush 2004 letter let it be known that the United States supported Israel’s claims on Jerusalem and the major settlement blocs. Obama is neutral about Israel’s borders. That is why the Palestinians view his support of the 1967 borders as a green light for them to refuse to talk unless Israel agrees to surrender every inch of territory.

Even worse, Obama’s lecture about why Israel must make further concessions in spite of Arab intransigence was condescending and somewhat misleading. Obama said that demographics and technology mean the status quo can’t be sustained and implicitly accused Israel of “procrastination.” But Israel has already offered the Palestinians a state in virtually all of the West Bank, part of Jerusalem and Gaza and been turned down twice. Even the supposedly right-wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu has made its commitment to a two-state solution clear. Obama says Israel can’t wait “another decade or two or three decades” to make peace. But Israel has been trying to make peace for 63 years. The world may be “moving too fast” to wait for peace but why must he lecture the Israelis when it is the Palestinians who refuse to talk, let alone recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish state no matter where its borders are drawn?

 Road Map to Peace

Although Obama rightly declared that the United States would oppose attempts to bypass the peace process via the United Nations, his mention of the 1967 borders will be used, as it has already by the Palestinians, to buttress their attempt to get recognition for an independent state inside those lines with no recognition of Israel.

Like all Obama speeches, the president presented a false choice in which he said the “easy thing” would be to say nothing about the peace process rather than to confront it as he has done. Democratic Party donors will have the final word on how foolish his attempt to ambush Netanyahu this past week. But the real false choice is the notion that it is somehow in Israel’s power to magically create peace. That decision has always been in the hands of the Palestinians and the Arab world. So long as they ally themselves with terrorists and refuse to negotiate and to demand a “right of return” which would destroy Israel (and which Obama again failed to condemn) there will be no peace.

ISRAEL – FOGEL FAMILY MURDER BY PALESTINIANS – includes infant

Palestinians Celebrate Brutal Murder of the Jewish Fogel Family

03/15/11 11:35 AM Justin Credible

With the horrific earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan last week, the media hasn’t been reporting on much else.  That’s understandable, to an extent.  Although Japan’s travesty impacts the world, there is one story that was barely mentioned by the media, unfortunately.  On Saturday morning, Palestinian and Islamic extremists brutally massacred five members of the Fogal family in Itamar, an Orthodox Jewish community and an Israeli settlement in the West Bank (video below).  This was unmistakably an act of terrorism.

This disgusting incident serves to remind us of the Holy War raging between Palestine/Islamic extremists and Jews worldwide, but primarily in Israel.  It’s a battle where Muslim radicals will not give up until every Jew, along with Israel, is wiped off the face of the Earth.

“The murder scene was shocking.  Kids’ toys right next to pools of blood.”

This was a terrorist attack, and there’s no other way to describe it.  The act was a motivation of Islamic extremism.  Unfortunately, stories like these often go underreported, especially now with the focus being on Japan and hopefully their quick recovery.

Three children of the Fogel family, a four-year old, 11-year old and an infant, along with their parents, were stabbed to death in the middle of the night.  Itamar has been the scene of Palestinian violence in the past.  Two other Fogel children returned home shortly after the murder and ran to their neighbors, who reported the incident.  The trail of blood led Israeli security forces to nearby Palestinian towns.  The IAF has employed an unmanned aircraft to search for the suspects.  20 Palestinians have already been arrested.

Palestinian residents in Gaza celebrated the terrorist attack on Saturday.  Residents handed out “candy and sweets” during their celebration in Gaza.

“[Joy] is a natural response to the harm settlers inflict on the Palestinian residents.”

Islamic extremists are the greatest threat to the world.  Unfortunately, the Obama administration has a hate-on for Israel, which has been shunned many times by the undocumented President Obama.  The situation alone is unfortunate enough, but it’s even more unfortunate that politics have to be dragged into this, including the liberal media.  Yes,CNN, the BBC and The New York Times called the murderers “alleged terrorists.”  The victims?  They were called settlers and occupiers.  We’ll never understand why so many American Jews are liberals – the only logical reason is that liberalism is their religion, not Judaism.

For readers that have children, put yourself in this situation.  If it wasn’t terrorist, Islamic extremists that murdered the family, then what was it?

Palestinian PM seeking to lure Hamas into unity government

In appeal to join forces with West Bank-ruling Palestinian Authority, Salam Fayyad says Hamas can maintain its authority over the Gaza Strip until elections.

By Avi Issacharoff and The Associated Press

The Palestinian Authority on Sunday offered to form a unity government with the rival Hamas militant group, in hopes of paving the way for national elections later this year.

Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad indicated that should Hamas accept its proposal, the PA would not interfere in the Islamist movement’s reign over the Gaza Strip pending elections.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas accepted the resignation of his entire cabinet last week, assigning Fayyad with the task of forming a new cabinet.

The move was in part motivated by the recent leak of documents by Al Jazeera on the negotiations between Israel and the PA, as well as developments in Egypt, and came with a pledge to hold Palestinians elections before September of this year.

Fayyad hinted Sunday that he was interested in including Hamas in the future cabinet, in a proposal that seemed to leave much of the status quo in place for the time being.

hamas.jpg

attack at the yeshiva was a barbaric murder of eight children who were engaged in religious study.

Hamas would thus retain security control in Gaza under his proposal as long as it preserved a cease-fire with Israel. Fayyad would continue to govern from the West Bank, and would work with Hamas to place both territories under a single governing authority.

“The split has been too long and should not continue, and it won’t end by itself. We need to move to end the split,” Fayyad said.

Fayyad refused to say who might lead the unity government, saying this would have to be worked out in negotiations. He said that as long as Hamas, which has fired thousands of rockets at Israel, agrees to maintain calm, all other issues could be resolved.

In Gaza, Hamas officials refused to comment, saying they needed more details on Fayyad’s plan.

Any unity government would likely end any hopes of reviving Mideast peace talks. Israel and the international community have said there will be no dealings with Hamas until it formally renounces violence and recognizes Israel’s right to exist.

Palestinian officials in the West Bank appear willing to take this risk, saying they have little faith the U.S. can revive negotiations in any case.

Commenting last week on the Palestinian Authority’s announcement of an upcoming vote, Hamas, which has sour relations with Abbas, said it would not take part in the ballot or recognize the results – a decision that will make it hard for Abbas to stage a credible vote.

Abbas’ credibility has been sapped by stalled talks with Israel on a deal to establish an independent state, and the Palestinians have increasingly taken steps to build international consensus in an attempt to pressure Israel into making concessions.

Most recently, the Palestinian president was badly discredited by a U.S. block of an Abbas-initiated UN draft resolution condemning Israel’s settlement construction. While 14 of the 15 UN Security Council members voted in favor of the condemnation, the United States used its veto power to block the proposal altogether.

Following the veto, the Palestinian Authority was reportedly intent on calling an emergency session of the UN General Assembly to condemn Israel later this week. That resolution is expected to pass easily.

Obama spoke with Abbas for 50 minutes on Thursday to urge the Palestinian president not to bring the resolution to a vote. According to the Palestinian daily Al-Ayyam, Obama told Abbas that the resolution could damage U.S. interests in the Middle East and could induce the U.S. Congress to halt aid to the PA.

Obama reportedly suggested that in lieu of bringing the resolution to a vote, Abbas accept an alternative package of benefits, including a presidential statement on the settlements by the Security Council. Such a statement would be nonbinding, but could be couched in harsher terms.

The package would also have included a Security Council visit to Ramallah to express support for the PA and denounce the settlements, and a statement by the Quartet of Middle East peacemakers that, for the first time, would call for the boundaries of the Palestinian state to be based on the 1967 lines.

France – Michele Alliot-Marie, French FM, backs Palestinian Statehood – even after being attacked an misquoted about Gilad Shalit’s imprisonment being a war crime.

January 22, 2011

She may not like the Burqa, but that doesn’t mean she’s pro Jew or Israel and here she is to prove it.

Maybe this is her way or better yet FRANCES way to say that even though they may be against SHARIAH and ISLAMAZATION, they are not FOR ISRAEL.

French Justice Minister Michele Alliot-Marie on Wednesday presented a draft law to the Cabinet banning Muslim veils that cover the face, the first formal step in a process to forbid such attire in all public places in France. It calls for USD 185 fines and, in some cases, citizenship classes for women who run afoul of the law.

France has always been a bit of a two faced country.  They brought the world Napoleon didn’t they?  Eh, who remembers old Napi anyway.  History repeats itself.

After being attacked in Gaza, Michele Alliot-Marie slams settlements, says state needed ASAP

French Foreign Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said Saturday that her country does not recognize the legitimacy of West Bank settlements and that Israel must stop building them.

“France supports the establishment of an independent, democratic Palestinian state as soon as possible,” she said at the conclusion of her visit to Israel.

Alliot-Marie visited the town of Sderot Friday after being attacked by angry Palestinians in the Gaza Strip earlier in the day.

Dozens of Gazans encircled the minister’s car while hurling eggs and shoes at it as result of a comment mistakenly attributed to Alliot-Marie, who was erroneously quoted as saying that the holding of Gilad Shalit is a war crime.

Meanwhile Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said the future state’s infrastructure would be ready by August, according to plan.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Fayyad defied skepticism voiced by other officials regarding his schedule. “Unless we have the spirit to defy it, it’s not going to happen. Unless we believe it, how is it going to become a reality?” he said.

But the leader stressed that a Palestinian state will have to include Hamas in Gaza, despite the current rift with Fatah in the West Bank. He also denied having a secret plan to disengage from Israel unilaterally.

“Getting ready for statehood, by itself, is not going to end the occupation. It’s necessary, but not sufficient. You need a political process to deliver on that,” he said.

Israel – UK consulates arrested for selling weapons to HAMAS – why not sell weapons to Hamas? The US actually sent an envoy for it: Imam Rauf

January 3, 2011

They should arrest Imam Rauf as well.  I’m sure that while he was there he was a facilitator of some “transactions” —->

Despite the plentiful amount of information developed by independent researchers, bloggers, and commentators that has been published about the questionable associations of project front man ABDUL-RAUF over the last few weeks, he continues to travel to the Middle East as an emissary of America at the behest of the Obama/Clinton State Department. Ostensibly, his purpose is to “discuss Muslim life in America and religious tolerance” with Islamic leaders in Muslim countries. Despite his questionable associations, the U.S. State Department is steadfast in their support of his goodwill tour.

The UK and the US have long been allies on just about everything.  This is no exception.  The UK doesn’t make these types of mistakes and to have the public believe that they do dishonors them and discredits it’s intelligence.  I guess thats exactly what they want us to get out of it.

Israel arrests 2 UK consulate workers in Jerusalem

(AP) – 6 hours ago

LONDON (AP) — Two local maintenance workers at the U.K. consulate in Jerusalem have been arrested by Israeli authorities on suspicion of selling weapons to Hamas militants, officials said Monday.

The arrests come after Israel’s Shin Bet security service on Sunday disclosed that two alleged militants operating in east Jerusalem were arrested in November and indicted for buying weapons and planning to carry out attacks.

Israeli authorities have alleged the militants were scouting locations for an attack, including the possibility of allegedly launching a missile at a packed soccer stadium in Israel during a match. Three other men were charged with arms dealing in the same case, according to a statement from the Shin Bet.

Shin Bet Chief Yuval Diskin arrived at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem shortly after the war. During the meeting, the two officials asked Olmert's military secretary, Major-General to leave the room.

An Israeli diplomat said Monday he believes the two British consulate employees — confirmed by the British Foreign Office as Mohammed Hamadeh and Bilal Bakhatan — are linked to the Hamas plot. A British Foreign Office spokesman said he believes the two maintenance workers are being investigated for allegedly selling illegal weapons, but that the U.K. is seeking confirmation from Israel.

hamas.jpg

Since the navy's May 31 takeover of the Turkish-Hamas flotilla , Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his advisors have deliberated around the clock about how to contend with the US-led international stampede against Israel. But their ultimate decision to form an investigatory committee led by a retired Supreme Court justice and overseen by foreign observers indicates that they failed to recognize the nature of the international campaign facing Israel today. Led by US President Barack Obama, the West has cast its lot with Hamas against Israel.

“We are trying to figure out exactly what was their relation to this group of Hamas activists,” the Israeli diplomat said on customary condition of anonymity. He added that an investigation was ongoing.

Israeli authorities have told British officials that the arrests are unrelated to the men’s work at the consulate, a spokesman for Britain’s Foreign Office said.

The British spokesman, also speaking on condition of anonymity according to departmental protocol, said the men were both local hires and were arrested last month. He said the U.K. it is awaiting confirmation of their nationalities.

<That what happens when you outsource your inteligence>

He added that Britain has confidence in the vetting process for all its employees at consulates and embassies, which is under constant review. He said “events like these” arrests will be looked at as part of the continual review.

Obama should not be president – Obama funds the PA during a economic depression and builds a Nazi state around Israel

November 17, 2010

These these things need to be exposed to the American people.

The amount of money should be VOTED on and not spent anyway that this impostor president wants.

This is outright coercion by this President.  The people would NEVER go for it if they knew the TRUTH, yet we are being lied to in greater proportions than even the Soviet Union lied in it’s hey day.  This government has done it in a more “gentle” way.  The people have been anesthetized and are not hurting so much, so they go along with almost anything that these rogue policy makers dream up.

Our World: What the PA buys with American money:

By CAROLINE B. GLICK

Prime Minister Netanyahu shaking hands with Abbas.

In funding the Palestinian Authority, the US contravenes its own laws; most aid to the PA has has gone to propping up Fayyad.

Two weeks ago, a Palestinian from Bethlehem was arrested by the US-financed and trained Palestinian Authority security forces. He was charged with “carrying out commercial transactions with residents of a hostile state.”
No, he was not buying uranium from Iran. His purported crime was purchasing wood products from an Israeli community located beyond the 1949 armistice lines.

Denied bail by the US-funded PA magistrate’s court in Bethlehem, he has been remanded to custody pending the conclusion of his trial.

This man’s arrest is part of what the unelected, US-supported Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad has touted as his “National Honor Fund.” The goal of this project is to ban all economic contact between Palestinians and Jews who live and work beyond the 1949 armistice lines. As far as the supposedly moderate Fayyad is concerned, those Jews and Israel generally comprise the “hostile state,” that the Palestinians under Fayyad’s leadership are being compelled to boycott.

Speaking to The Jerusalem Post, Palestinian Labor Minister Ahmed Majdalani said the PA hopes that by the end of the year all the thousands of Palestinians who are employed in Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria will quit their jobs. What he didn’t mention is that if they don’t quit, they will be arrested.

According to PA Economics Minister Hassan Abu Libdeh, since the start of Fayyad’s campaign, the PA has confiscated $1 million worth of Israeli products including foods, cosmetics and hardware from Palestinian stores.

Fayyad’s measures come on top of previously enacted PA measures like imposing the death penalty on Palestinians who sell land to Jews. Less than two months ago, the PA reaffirmed that it will continue to execute any Palestinian who commits this “crime.”

There is no way to credibly claim that these actions advance either the cause of peaceful coexistence or Palestinian economic prosperity. Yet it is precisely in the hope of advancing these goals that the US government funds the PA.

DESPITE HIS campaign to boycott Israel and punish Palestinians with economic ties to the Jewish state, Fayyad is the US’s favorite Palestinian. Since PA President Mahmoud Abbas appointed Fayyad to lead the rump Fatah government in Judea and Samaria after Hamas took over the Gaza Strip, US aid to the PA has increased by more than 700 percent. Most of this aid has gone to propping up Fayyad.

The US directly finances his budget. It funds and trains a Palestinian military. And it subsidizes his programs to build governmental institutions that loyally carry out his anti-Israel policies.

Last Wednesday, during a joint press conference with Fayyad, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the US will give the PA an additional $150 million in aid to supplement the $400 million in financial assistance that President Barack Obama pledged in June. This supplement comes in response to Fayyad’s claim that he needs $500 million to close his budget shortfall.

<This is also at a time when the US is THIRTEEN TRILLION in the hole.  Obama needs to be IMPEACHED.  If he is not impeached, then, for the rest of his life, he will be doing this.  This man is a traitor to the US>
According to the Congressional Research Service, the PA is the largest recipient of foreign assistance in the world. According to Bloomberg, it received $1.2 billion in 2009 and will receive $1.8 billion by the end of the year.

The US provided the PA with $500.9 million in 2009 and, before Clinton’s announcement, was scheduled to provide it with $550 million in 2011. This assistance does not include US financial support for UNRWA, an agency devoted exclusively to providing welfare benefits to Palestinians while subordinating itself to a Palestinian political agenda. The US is the single largest donor to UNRWA. Last year the $268 million US taxpayers gave the UN agency constituted 27 percent of UNRWA’s budget.

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who is expected to become the chairwoman of the House Foreign Relations Committee in the next Congress, responded negatively to Clinton’s announced expansion of US aid to the PA. In a statement released by her office last Thursday, Ros-Lehtinen derided the assistance as a “bailout.”

She further commented, “It is deeply disturbing that the administration is continuing to bail out the Palestinian leadership when they continue to fail to meet their commitments, under international agreements and requirements outlined in US law, including dismantling the Palestinian terrorist infrastructure, combating corruption, stopping anti-Israel and anti-Semitic incitement and recognizing Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state.”

Ros-Lehtinen authored the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act of 2006, which conditioned US assistance to the PA on, among other things, “publicly acknowledge[ing] the Jewish state of Israel’s right to exist.”

While on the mark, Ros-Lehtinen’s statement only scratches the surface of how contrary to US law and the goals of Palestinian economic development and peace US financial assistance to the Palestinians truly is.

Take US security assistance to the Palestinians. The US responded to the Hamas takeover in Gaza by massively increasing its military assistance to Fatah. According to the CRS, between 2007 and August 2010, US assistance to the PA security services totaled $400 million. They received $100 million in 2010 and are set to receive $150 million in 2011. This assistance has paid for the training and outfitting of 400 Presidential Guards and 2,700 soldiers in the National Security Forces. The US plans to train five additional 500-man NSF battalions.

<OBAMA is a double talking Muslim, who has yet to provide a valid Birth Certificate.  This is a rogue Presidency. >
The CRS report acknowledged these forces have improved the law and order situation in Judea and Samaria. But it also asserted that “uncertainty remains over the durability of these improvements and their connection with broader Palestinian economic and civil society development and with progress on Israeli-Palestinian negotiations as well as over the willingness and ability of the forces to incapacitate militants.”

Indeed, there is little reason to believe that these US-trained forces will not join forces with Hamas and turn their guns on Israel in the future. Since 1996, PA security services have taken a leading role in the terror war against Israel.

Concerned about the threat these forces pose, particularly in light of Fayyad’s rejection of Israel’s right to exist, earlier this year OC Central Command Maj.-Gen. Avi Mizrahi warned that these US-trained forces constitute a qualitative jump in the Palestinians’ war fighting capabilities against Israel.

As he put it, “This is a well trained force, better equipped than its predecessors and trained by the US. The significance of this is that at the start of a new battle [with the Palestinians] the price that we will pay will be higher. A force like this one can shut down a built-up area with four snipers. This is deadly. These aren’t the fighters we faced in Jenin [in 2002]. This is an infantry force that will be fighting us and we need to take this into account. They have offensive capabilities and we aren’t expecting them to give up.”

Then there is the US direct assistance to the PA’s operating budget. The US has provided $350 million in direct budgetary assistance to the PA in the past two years. There are three problems with this aid.

First, it is far from clear that the PA needs this assistance. According to the International Monetary Fund and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, in 2009 real GDP in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip grew by 6.8 percent, (8.5% in Judea and Samaria). The report also claimed that unemployment declined. So if things are going so well, why is it necessary for foreign donor countries to increase their direct assistance to Fayyad’s budget?

<sounds like they are doing better than us, actually!>
Second, given Fayyad’s rejection of free trade principles, particularly as they relate to Israel, the PA’s largest trading partner, it is hard to see how his economic leadership is credible. As the failed stimulus packages in the US have shown clearly, government bureaucracies do not create jobs. That is the work of the private sector. And yet, Fayyad is barring Palestinians from having trade ties with their most important business partners and commercial market. This is not the behavior of a leader who is interested in facilitating sustainable economic growth.

Finally, the simple truth is that it is impossible to prevent US budgetary assistance to the PA from financing Hamas, in contravention of US law. Each month Fayyad transfers funds to Hamas-controlled Gaza to pay the salaries of PA employees there. Fayyad has argued that this assistance cannot be considered material aid to Hamas, since the employees are employed by the PA. But this is nonsense.

These employees serve at the pleasure of Hamas. Paying their salaries contravenes US law as well as international law, which prohibits states from providing any assistance whatsoever to areas controlled by terrorists. This is true even if the actual money he transfers to Gaza comes from other income sources. Without the direct US budgetary assistance, he wouldn’t be able to funnel money to Gaza.

PROVIDING DIRECT budgetary assistance to Fayyad isn’t the only way the US finances Hamas. It also contributes to Hamas by funding UNRWA. US assistance to UNRWA has doubled in the last four years, largely as a way of avoiding providing direct aid to Hamas. Yet the CRS report notes, “In Gaza, most observers acknowledge that the role of UNRWA in providing basic services (i.e., food, health care, education) takes much of the governing burden off Hamas.”

In defending its assistance to UNRWA, the State Department told Congress that the aid “directly contributes to the US strategic interest of meeting the humanitarian needs of the Palestinians, while promoting their self-sufficiency. UNRWA plays a stabilizing role in the Middle East through its assistance programs, serving as an important counterweight to extremists.”

But the fact of the matter is that UNRWA employees are Hamas members and sympathizers. And despite the State Department’s claim that it has adopted safeguards to ensure that US assistance is not transferred to individuals and groups with links to Hamas and other terror groups, UNRWA’s checks against terrorism are restricted to checking a UN list of banned terror groups that includes only al-Qaida and the Taliban. As the CRS report noted, UNRWA’s terror screening list “does not include Hamas, Hizbullah or most other militant groups that operate in UNRWA’s surroundings.” In other words, UNRWA continues to employ terrorists, and its current procedures do nothing to prevent that.

<The US Gov’t. continues to lie to the people of the US regarding Palestine. >

A Framework of Cooperation agreement signed this year between UNRWA and the US sets out 15 steps for UNRWA to expand its terror screening. But the agreement is nonbinding. Moreover, its provisions in no way block terror-linked individuals or groups from receiving aid from UNRWA.

In truth, given the PA’s refusal to recognize Israel’s right to exist or take sustained, decisive action against terrorism, there is really no way for the US to continue funding it without breaking its own laws. But acknowledging this state of affairs would involve admitting that the peace process is a lie and that any Palestinian state that is formed today will be a terrorist state at war with Israel.

The incoming Congress might want to consider these basic truths before it approves further aid to Fayyad and his moderate government.

My comment:

To gather the Jews for the gas chambers, Satan founded Nazi-Germany.  To get rid of all the Jews in today’s generation, Satan and his men has to form a new Nazi-state where the Jews are already regathered. That is around Jerusalem.

The majority of Jews who are not home in Israel, are living in the US. Many of them Jews, only in name. But the God of Israel will send other hunters, and bring them home to Zion. Obama might be one of the last hunters.

Satan will not win the final victory. But the Jews will walk into his final trap. The rescue will come from above. God the Father will again send His Son. Jesus is coming back to Jerusalem, to save Israel. Get ready for the final battle in Zion.

The victory belongs to the Messiah. He is the Lion and the lamb of God. Amen.

NO Building in Jerusalem = NO Building in Washington.

November 10, 2010

What’s fair is fair.

If the US is critical of Israel for building in Jerusalem, then Washington DC should now become OFF LIMITS to new building as well.  After all, Americans are told that Mexico disputes it’s territories.  Should America then not build or be forced by the UN not to build due to Mexico contesting the American border? This would be analogous to America telling another country that they MAY NOT build in their OWN capital.  How would England react if the US told them that they could not build in London for WHATEVER reason?

Obama acts like a World Dictator.  It’s a good thing we don’t have one — YET!

Netanyahu to Obama: Jerusalem is not a settlement:

The peace process threatened to spiral out of control Tuesday over Israeli plans to advance 1,345 housing units in Jewish neighborhoods of east Jerusalem.

SPEECH THERAPY. Pundits could not cast Netanyahu aPrime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had flown to the US Saturday night hoping to break the impasse in the stalled peace talks. Instead, US President Barack Obama publicly reprimanded him as the Palestinians reissued their threats to seek unilateral statehood.

Speaking about the Jerusalem homes at a press conference in Indonesia, Obama said, “This kind of activity is never helpful when it comes to peace negotiations.” He added that such “incremental steps can end up breaking down trust between the parties.”

<He has a big mouth when he’s in his comfort zone.  Indonesia is his HOME, where he feels comfortable enough to make bold and MUSLIM tone remarks.>
Netanyahu, in turn, sharply defended Israel’s right to build in Jerusalem, which it claims as its eternal united capital, even as the Palestinians claim the eastern party of the city as the capital of their future state.

“Jerusalem is not a settlement. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement on Tuesday, adding that the government had never agreed to place any restrictions on construction in Jerusalem, which has 800,000 residents.

<That would be like calling Washington DC or LONDON a settlement. >

Although much of the international community equates construction in east Jerusalem with that of West Bank settlements, Israel makes a sharp distinction between the two. From November of last year to September, it halted new settlement construction in the West Bank, but during that time it continued to issue new tenders for building in east Jerusalem.

“Israel does not see any connection between the peace process and the policy of planning and construction in Jerusalem, which has not changed in 40 years,” the statement continued. “For the last 40 years every Israeli government built in every part of the city. During that period, peace agreements were signed with Egypt and Jordan, and for 17 years direct negotiations were held with the Palestinians. These are historical facts. Construction in Jerusalem has never interfered with the peace process.”

The statement went on to say that for the past 40 years, Israel and the US had disagreed over the status of east Jerusalem, but that Israel hoped to overcome these differences and stay focused on the peace process. It added that Netanyahu was hopeful that his meeting Thursday with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would advance the peace process.

The prime minister was not scheduled to meet with Obama, who is still touring Asia.

<Asia?  Indonesia.  He’s in INDONESIA.  HIS HOME!  America is not and he certainly doesn’t recognize Americans as HIS people.  He always identifies AMERICANS as AMERICANS and nothing more.  Just like Brits are Brits or Russians are Russians.  Nothing but a name. >

The State Department on Tuesday responded immediately to the claims in the statement that east Jerusalem construction had no bearing on the peace process.

<Even the state department is not on the same sheet as Obama>

“There clearly is a link in the sense that it is incumbent upon both parties … they are responsible for creating conditions for a successful negotiation,” State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said. “To suggest that this kind of announcement would not have an impact on the Palestinian side I think is incorrect.”

Barkat: There is no freeze in Jerusalem

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat told The Jerusalem Post that nobody should be surprised because there is no freeze in the city.

“In Jerusalem, we continue building for Jews and Arabs, as a derivative of our outline plans,” Barkat said.

A number of Likud ministers immediately applauded Netanyahu.

Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar said that the nation stands behind him as he defends its right to build in Jerusalem.

Vice Premier Silvan Shalom went further and announced plans to visit West Bank settlements such as Ma’aleh Adumim and the Binyamin region.

At his press conference in Indonesia, Obama said that in spite of the construction in east Jerusalem, his country was committed to a two-state solution based on a negotiated settlement.

“I’m concerned that we’re not seeing each side make the extra effort involved to get a breakthrough that could finally create a framework for a secure Israel living side and side – side by side in peace with a sovereign Palestine,” said Obama.

“We’re going to keep on working on it though, because it is in the world’s interest, it is in the interest of the people of Israel, and it is in the interest of the Palestinian people to achieve that settlement, to achieve that agreement.”

On Monday, Crowley said that the US was mindful of the possibility that “somebody in Israel has made this known in order to embarrass the prime minister and to undermine the process.”

It’s not the first time that east Jerusalem construction has moved forward precisely at a moment when the US and Israel were talking face-to-face about the peace process. Plans for 1,600 new apartments in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood were advanced during a March visit to Israel by Vice President Joe Biden.

In both cases the projects, which had been initiated a number of years ago, moved one step forward in the planning process, but are far from being finalized.

In New York, Netanyahu told Bloomberg TV he hoped that negotiations with the Palestinians would resume and be finished within a year, and attacked the Palestinians for making an issue of Israel’s resumption of settlement construction in the West Bank.

“I think the settlements are a minor issue,” he said. “And it’s been way overblown – not that it’s not going to be discussed in these negotiations…. It’s just that it hasn’t really blocked the flow of peace.”

He called on the Palestinians to recognize the Jewish nature of the State of Israel, just as his country was ready to recognize their state.
