Giffords still in critical care, but making progress
By JORDANA HORN
On Saturday, doctors at the University Medical Center in Tucson removed Giffords’ breathing tube and replaced it with a tracheotomy tube, as well as a feeding tube “to provide nutritional support.”
In a statement, doctors said Giffords can breathe on her own but the breathing tube was being used as a precaution. With it removed, doctors said they can now evaluate her ability to speak. The hospital said that such procedures are “not uncommon” among intensive care patients suffering serious brain injuries.
UPDATE– Nine year old (Arizona – Nine year old born from the attacks of 9-11 is the youngest dead in shooting)
This is what you get when reality, and male aggression, undirected (g-dless) runs amok. He doesn’t sound crazy. He sounds like a male who’s been misguided and confused by the direction-less counter culture that we are forced to endure.
Updated 5:19 p.m. The Associated Press is reporting that Jared Lee Loughner is the suspect in the shooting of 18 people, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, in Tuscon, Ariz., Saturday morning.
A YouTube account registered to a person of the same name — Jared Loughner — had several videos on it ranting about currency, English speakers and mind control techniques.
The last video posted to the account, “Final Thoughts”:Vodpod videos no longer available.
CNN has reported the suspected shooter was born in 1988 and the Washington Post is reporting that he is a veteran.
<Just because he was at MEPS (maybe) doesn’t mean he was a vet.>
The media is POLITICIZING this and is saying that this idiot child was part of the tea party. This is sooooo far from the truth. They know it!
She is alive, but in surgery currently.
She is brave due to her ability to speak to the people of Arizona.
She won that seat against a Tea Party candidate. She do so by being conservative.
I wish the media would stop making it like it was some natural disaster.
This is a woman who was shot by some vigilantly – a terrorist. A really bad person.

“She’s alive,” Giffords’ spokesperson reportedly told Reuters.
The Pima County sheriff’s office told NPR that six others at the event were killed.
Giffords, 40, was chatting with a couple in her district when the shooter opened fire from about four feet away.
The shooter, described as a man in his teens or early 20s, was tackled by a bystander as he ran from the scene, according to NPR.
<If someone there had a conceal carry license, maybe the guy could have been taken down before shooting at all 12 people. Even if one life would have been saved, then things would be better. >
The Congresswoman is known for cracking down on illegal immigration, urging deployment of the National Guard and new technology to protect the Arizona border.
Before her election to Congress in 2006, the Arizona native served in the state legislature.
Her husband, Capt. Mark Kelly, is a Navy pilot, a Desert Storm veteran and an astronaut.
