A Soros Connection to Juan Williams Firing?
By: Jim Meyers
National Public Radio’s firing of political pundit Juan Williams for comments he made on Fox News has raised speculation that liberal NPR patron George Soros may have influenced the media organization’s decision to ax Williams on Wednesday.
Williams’ seemingly innocuous remarks came when he appeared on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday. Asked by host Bill O’Reilly if the nation was facing a “Muslim dilemma,” Williams — who is also a Fox News political analyst — said: “I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”
NPR said in a statement it had given Williams notice of his termination on Wednesday night. NPR said his remarks were “inconsistent” with NPR’s “editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”
http://w3.newsmax.com/unicorn/UMTremorPlayer.swfPolitical analyst Doug Schoen is among observers on not only the left but also the right expressing dismay at NPR’s wholesale firing of Juan Williams. Williams’ fights for civil rights and racial equality are well known, says Schoen, who castigated the firing as a ‘profound injustice.’
Soros has made large donations to NPR and other left-leaning media over the years.
And this week it was revealed that the billionaire currency titan is giving $1 million to liberal Media Matters in what he says is an attempt to stop the growing popularity of Fox News.
Fox News’ Glenn Beck has been outspoken in his criticism of Soros for influencing journalism through huge donations to NPR and other left-leaning media.
Beck said on Tuesday that Soros’ Open Society Institute was giving $1.8 million to add journalists at NPR radio stations across the country.
And he challenged Soros to come on his show and debate, “mano-a-mano, no minions, no spin doctors, no NPR journalists, just you and me.”
According to The Daily Caller, “The firing of National Public Radio news analyst Juan Williams for comments made about Muslims, combined with left-wing billionaire George Soros’ recent $1.8 million donation to the organization, have reignited calls to end NPR’s taxpayer subsidies.”
And Examiner.com Los Angeles stated that “Soros money is now beginning to turn the screws and place pressure.”

Juan is pretty liberal and for these people to fire him is showing how far the propaganda is steeped.
This program is far left and promotes an agenda that is dangerous to American Security.
Juan Williams fired: NPR host shouldn’t lose job over Muslim comments, and liberals should say so
Thursday, October 21st 2010, 11:19 AM
News analyst Juan Williams appears on the “Fox & friends” television program in New York. Williams, who has written extensively on race and civil rights in the U.S., has been fired by National Public Radio after comments he made about Muslims on Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” on Monday.
NPR, a network for which I have the utmost respect, made a huge mistake by firing Juan Williams. They should say they’re sorry and offer him his job back, now.
This is what Williams said this to Bill O’Reilly this week: “I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country… But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they’re identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”
For this, NPR canned him, saying, “His remarks on ‘The O’Reilly Factor’ this past Monday were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”
In this handout provided by the White House, US President George W. Bush speaks with Juan Williams from NPR during an interview in the Roosevelt Room of the White House in Washington, DC.
It is hard to read this as anything other than payback to someone who has been a regular commentator on Fox News for many years. It looks like the liberal network was salivating, searching for an excuse to get rid of someone they’d long ago decided was an irritant. If that was the reason for the firing, NPR brass should have had the guts to come out and say it.
This is also, officially, political correctness run amok. Debate whether or not CNN was right to boot Rick Sanchez for saying dicey stuff about Jews and the media; I think their termination was an overreaction.
Juan Williams has a body of work to look at; the proud snippet of the NPR bio I can still find by searching on Google calls him “one of America’s leading journalists.” His words should be understood in that context. He’s chronicled the civil rights movement. He’s written controversial but incisive critiques of social pathologies in the black community. He is nobody’s tool.
And – this is the most important part – the words and thoughts about Muslims themselves were utterly reasonable, especially when read in full context, as Slate’s Williams Saletan has taken the time to do. As the conversation progressed, Williams took issue with O’Reilly’s broad generalizations about Muslims, and particularly American Muslims. He bluntly said we are not at war against Islam. He said just as it would have been wrong to characterize all of Christianity because of the actions of Timothy McVeigh, it’s wrong to vilify all Muslims because of the actions of terrorists.
Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin have rushed to condemn NPR. Liberals should join them.
Is it a firing offense for a woman to admit that at night, she crosses the street if she sees a group of five teenagers walking toward her, just to be safe? It was Jesse Jackson who once said, “Like anybody else, I would cross the street to avoid someone homeless, and turn the other way if I saw kids who looked like gang members.”
There are two kids of prejudice: prejudgments based on total ignorance, and honest extrapolations based on actual information and experience. There’s also a difference between admitting you have instincts or reactions and recommending unequal treatment on the basis of those instincts or reactions.
In case you forgot, less than ten years ago, 19 people hijacked airplanes and crashed them into some of our most important buildings, killing 3,000 people. The people who committed this crime all were Muslim. They didn’t just happen to be Muslim. They were motivated by their extreme reading of the Koran, a book in which violence can certainly be found in abundance, if you’re a person prone to anger and violence.
All Williams did was admit that he gets nervous. He didn’t say he treats Muslims differently when he spots them; he didn’t say the government ought to kick Muslims off airplanes or do a full cavity search of everyone wearing a hijab. He said he has a human reaction.
Are we supposed to check our brains at the gate?
The vast majority of Americans not only sympathize with the way Williams’ mind works; their minds work the same way, and they will simply nod and appreciate his candor. But even if you disagree with the way his mind works, should admitting a slight discomfort around the presence of religious Muslims on an airplane mark the end of a journalist’s career at a news outlet?
Something is wrong with this country. On the one hand, we have people who feel emboldened to say insane and unsubstantiated things about President Obama. They have no sensitivity whatsoever, no regard for the truth. They are encouraged and rewarded at every turn by powerful media outlets that proudly claim to out of the “mainstream,” but are in fact as mainstream as you can imagine.
On the other hand the establishment media – NPR, CNN and others – have grown hypersensitive. They’re children who burned their hand on the stovetop and will never get near anything metal again.
We need to see a psychiatrist.
MY EMAIL TO MY LOCAL NPR:
I’m sure that you’ve heard of the tax levied to Kafir’s in Muslim countries. It’s called Jiziah. Jiziah is a form of a TAX, but there are other specific laws regarding the conduct of Kafir to a Muslim. The way NPR behaves is an example to all Muslims how compliant the American Kafir’s will be. Do yourselves a favor and READ some history about what ISLAM is. Don’t take that word of the, so called Moderate Muslim. These moderates have produced many who are EXTEMISTS. Read about INDIA’s history relating to ISLAM and all the same policies that they had in their ignorance and submission. The Calcutta Quran Petition. I have no vested interest in this book and it was written before I knew anything of it. Please, take note of what this really about and understand that the AMERICAN is not an Englishman. We are forged from another metal. This will not end the way of India or of Europe. Your support of Islam is not appreciated. Islam, most American’s are beginning to understand, is not a RELIGION. All major Religions put LIFE at their core. Islam is not bound to LIFE or PEACE, it’s mission is conquest and submission Our government funding this is akin to funding ones enemy. Islam, in it’s MODERATE form is a perversion of the TRUE ISLAM. Islam, at it’s core is, Conquest and Submission. Islam won’t rest, even if the whole world is Muslim. The Sudan is all Muslim. The lighter Sudanese believe that the dark Sudanese are not PURE enough. Their RIVERS run with the blood of the darker kind. Yet, even if they get rid of all the darker Muslims from that area, there will not be peace there. The next thing they will latch on to is that one Muslim is Sunni and anther is Shia, and so on. Political Correctness is the TOOL and the WEAPON. The pen is truly mightier than the sword. The WEST is perceived as weak and decayed. The Muslims are perceived as a fruit ready for the ripening. This is a dangerous time, because the core of Islam is NON INCLUSIVE. It’s EXCLUSIVE politics are dangerous to all. Even to themselves. There is no peace in ISLAM. They are directed by Mohamed to fight, even their own parents, if they are perceived as not adhering closely enough to the WORD of Mohamed.
