“Machete Music was the first label to give the Latin youth in the US something they could identify with. This breakthrough has been instrumental in the growth of some of today’s biggest acts and without question redefined the musical landscape. We are thrilled to be Universal’s partner on an initiative that we believe is helping to shape a generation,” said Rebeca Leon, VP of Latin Talent for AEG Live / Goldenvoice.
Created in 2005 by Universal Music Latin Entertainment, Machete Music was the first full service, start-up label from a major record company dedicated to the Latin urban music market. Since then, the label has become the dominant brand in the Latin urban genre becoming the No. 1 Latin entertainment company for not only Reggaeton but also Tropical and Hip-Hop music. It is home to some of the biggest stars and hottest Latin urban acts including: Wisin & Yandel, Don Omar, Angel & Khriz, RKM & Ken-Y, Chino & Nacho, JKing & Maximan, Makano, Eddy Lover, La Factoria, Kinto Sol, Akwid, Hector El Father and more. Moreover, its tropical roster includes some of Bachata music’s hottest young talent including Carlos & Alejandra and Xtreme. In addition, the label’s Five Year Anniversary celebration was kicked off with the official signing of Ivy Queen.

Don Omar has released No. 1 albums such as “King of Kings” and “IDON” and has become the only Latin artist to have a gold certified mobile ringtone (“Angelito”). Puerto Rican duo, Angel & Khriz, were recently honored by Billboard magazine for having the No. 1 Latin Rhythm song of the decade, “Ven Bailalo,” according to airplay throughout the last ten years. Breakthrough artists such as Makano from Panama have broken down barriers in Latin America and become digital age artists with massive mobile sales and millions of online streams. Furthermore the label’s new wave of artists, including Chino & Nacho, JKing & Maximan, Jowell & Randy and Carlos & Alejandra among others, is proving that Machete’s dominance will continue into the next decade.
