McCain: ‘Insulting’ for State Department to ‘Compare’ Arizona Illegal Immigration Law to China’s Human Rights ‘Abuses’:

He also told CNSNews.com that the official, who “did not read the law,” reflects “the liberal elite” that does not know the difference between “a state acting in a constitutional fashion and a regime that’s responsible for the deaths of millions of its citizens.”
Senators John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) wrote a letter to Michael Posner, the assistant secretary of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the State Department, a political appointee, demanding that he “retract and apologize” for telling officials of the Chinese regime that Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration law is an example of a “troubling trend in our society.”
Posner had also said that Arizona’s new law is an indication of “discrimination or potential discrimination” in American society.
On Capitol Hill, McCain told CNSNews.com, “Well, we wrote the letter to Mr. Posner — who I understand, of course, has not read the law — that it’s outrageous to compare a law that may be somewhat controversial but is certainly not unconstitutional, with the human rights abuses that the Chinese have been inflicting on the Chinese people, including Tibet including parts of China that there continues to be oppression and repression.”
“To compare that with a law passed by the people of Arizona in a Constitutional fashion is insulting,” said McCain.
It is estimated that at least 65 million Chinese were killed or died as a result of that country’s Communist policies. If China’s one-child law is included in the analysis, more than 100 million people have been killed as a consequence of government policy in that country.

McCain said, “Secretary Posner should apologize to start with and, obviously, he should. Secretary Posner is certainly, in my view at least, at this time not carrying out his duties that he’s supposed to in a qualified fashion.”
When asked if Posner’s position is a reflection of the Obama administration’s position on Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration law, McCain said that it is a “reflection of the liberal elite” in America.
McCain said: “I think it’s a reflection of the liberal elite in this country who condemn what a state does without reading the law, without understanding that we have a state that — whose borders are not secure and whose citizens are not safe and the federal government — this president and this administration have failed to carry out their responsibilities to secure our borders.”
“So, for the President to make a joke about it,” said McCain, “for the comments that have been made about it without – attorney general of the United States said that he was considering challenging the constitutionality of a law that he later said he hadn’t read. I’m not making that up.”
CNSNews.com also asked McCain if he thinks Posner should resign.
“I think that we’ll have to wait and see,” said McCain, “but the fact is that he reflects this liberal elite attitude that doesn’t know the difference between a state acting in a constitutional fashion and a regime that’s responsible for the deaths of millions of its citizens.”
